About This Program

Calling Michigan Youth interested in growing and preserving herbs! Do you live in one of the top 20 most densely populated cities in Michigan? MI-IMPACT will provide admitted youth with everything they need to grow, preserve, and use a variety of healthy herbs for their family and community — all shipped directly to your home.

This is a free program. There is no cost to apply or participate.

Who Can Apply

Open to Michigan youth ages 8–24 who are interested in growing and producing herbs. You must live in one of the following Michigan cities: Detroit, Grand Rapids, Warren, Sterling Heights, Ann Arbor, Lansing, Dearborn, Clinton Township, Canton Township, Macomb, Livonia, Troy, Westland, Farmington Hills, Shelby Township, Flint, Wyoming, Rochester Hills, Southfield, or Kalamazoo.

Please apply for ONE kit per household. Siblings may share program materials and complete the project together.

  • You must have indoor space, a water source, and an electrical outlet for the grow light

What’s Included — Shipped to Your Door

Every accepted participant receives a complete herb growing kit shipped directly to their home at no cost.

  • Indoor Culinary Herb Starter Kit (seeds, pots, soil, shears)

Before applying, please confirm you have an appropriate indoor space to grow plants, access to a water source, and an electrical outlet near your indoor garden. You must also live in one of the twenty eligible Michigan cities listed above.

Application materials required: a photo copy of a valid Michigan parent or youth photo ID (PNG or JPEG), and a supporting document such as a youth report card, community record, church record, state record, extracurricular record, bill, insurance document, or any other third-party document with the child’s name, age/grad
