About This Program
Would you like to learn basic stitches and hand sewing? Sewing School provides each participant with a beginner sewing kit, notions, materials, books, and an online learning curriculum. You’ll learn how to mend and repair clothing, sew on a button, and create new items from simple patterns — all from home, at your own pace.
This is a free program. There is no cost to apply or participate.
Who Can Apply
Sewing School is open to Michigan youth ages 6 to 14 who are interested in learning basic sewing skills. There are no demographic requirements — youth from rural, urban, and suburban areas are all welcome to apply. Preference is given to participants with modest annual family income. Participants must reside in Michigan full time.
What You’ll Need to Apply
The application is simple and takes about 10 minutes. You can complete it on your phone. You’ll need to upload two documents — a photo taken on your phone works fine, no need to scan or convert to PDF.
